Slovak regional elections 2013

The elections to local authorities of self-governing regions and the elections of presidents of self-governing regions took place in Slovakia on 9th November 2013 and subsequently a second round was set for 23rd November 2013.

The Self-Governing Region of Trenčín:

In a first round on 9th November 2013, Jaroslav Baška (Smer-SD) was elected as President of the Self-Governing Region of Trenčín. He obtained 53.5 % of valid votes (43 745 votes) and replaced Pavol Sedláček who had been presiding the Self-Governing Region of Trenčín from 2005 to 2013. The election turnout was 17.38 %.

The elected structure of the regional parliament is followed:

  • 45 deputies were elected including 13 women
  • Representation of political parties: Smer-SD (25), independent candidates (11), SDKÚ-DS (3), KDH (2), Most-Híd (1), Nova (1), Zmena Zdola (1), and SaS (1)
  • 23 regional deputies were re-elected

First session of the regional parliament will take place on 9th December 2013 in Trenčín.

The Self-Governing Region of Bratislava:

Pavol Frešo (SDKÚ-DS), the current President of the Self-Governing Region of Bratislava won with 74.2% of votes. He succeeded with a huge lead before another candidate M. Flašíková-Beňová (MEP, SMER-SD) in a second round. The election turnout was 17.89 %.

The Self-Governing Region of Trnava:

The Self-Governing Region of Trnava will be lead by Tibor Mikuš (Independent with support of SMER-SD). He was re-elected in a second round by getting 60.3 % of votes. The election turnout was 17.28 %.

The Self-Governing Region of Nitra:

Milan Belica (SMER-SD) defended his presidency of Self-Governing Region of Nitra with 55.6 % of votes in a second round. The turnout in the Region of Nitra was 15.52 %.

The Self-Governing Region of Žilina:

Also Juraj Blanár (SMER-SD) defended his presidency in a first round with 54.0 % of votes. The election turnout was 21.58 % in the Region.

The Self-Governing Region of Banská Bystrica:

The highest election turnout was in the Region of Banská Bystrica with 24.61 % of voters taking part. Marian Kotleba (ĽSNS) won in the election when he defeated a former President Vladimír Maňka (MEP, SMER-SD) in a second round. Marian Kotleba won with 55.5 % of votes.

The Self-Governing Region of Prešov:

The Self-Governing Region of Prešov will be presided by Peter Chudík (SMER-SD) who won the election with 53.8 % of votes in a first round. The election turnout in the Region was 22.13 %.

The Self-Governing Region of Košice:

The current President Zdenko Trebuľa (SMER-SD) remains to preside the Self-Governing Region of Košice. The turnout was only 12.21 % and Zdenko Trebuľa was re-elected in second round with 53.1 % of votes.
